Most of the youth of today who are pursuing higher education – either at the UG level or at the PG level – is at the crossroads of their lives – on their way to entering a stable and prosperous career path. To a large extent the onus of providing qualitative guidance and mentoring to these youngsters at this stage, mostly lies with the institution. The institution is also fairly in a position to provide this guidance because of its contacts and interactions with external bodies such as the government, university, employers, education providers, social organizations, etc.
While the institution strives to connect the student to potential employers, it is also necessary that the students also make extra efforts to strengthen their qualification by taking up additional courses of study through other agencies. Fortunately today in India some of the premier institutions and universities as well as professional bodies also offer short term knowledge/skill enhancement programmes.
In these times of stiff competition for employment, it is necessary that the students do not restrict their learning only to the programmes which they have joined at the college. It is necessary that they also forego some of the comforts for the sake of building up their CV with a diverse range of subjects which are in demand in the job market. On its part, our college is regularly offering additional courses of study in various subjects.
An open mind, keenness to learn, a disciplined way of life, time management, improvement of general knowledge, team working, developing useful friendships, becoming technology-oriented, etc are some of the tools that could help the students to become more wanted in the society. Entrepreneurship is one more area where the youth of today should venture into, by taking advantage of the support provided by the government at various levels.
